PM Modi to Virtually Inaugurate Jammu Railway Division on January 6

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the newly formed Jammu Railway Division from New Delhi on January 6, 2025, marking a crucial milestone in enhancing rail connectivity to the Kashmir Valley. This move fulfills a long-standing demand of local stakeholders and marks Jammu’s separation from the Firozepur Division under Northern Railways.

Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh will attend the ceremony in Jammu. Alongside Jammu, two more railway divisions will be inaugurated across the country on the same day.

The new division is expected to boost passenger convenience, improve infrastructure, and provide better services to railway staff and residents alike. It also paves the way for the much-anticipated direct train service to the Kashmir Valley, projected to begin around January 20.

Currently, rail services in the region operate between Sangaldan and Baramulla, while trial runs are underway on the critical 18-km Katra-Reasi stretch of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. This section features advanced tunnels, bridges, and modern signaling systems, ensuring safety and efficiency.

The USBRL project aims to offer world-class rail infrastructure connecting Jammu, Srinagar, and Baramulla to New Delhi, reinforcing national integration and economic growth in Jammu & Kashmir.
