Railways Approves ₹509 Cr for Major Flyover Projects in Odisha

In a major infrastructure push, the Indian Railways has sanctioned ₹509 crore for the construction of two significant flyovers in Odisha, aiming to ease railway congestion and improve operational efficiency. The projects will take shape in the Cuttack and Rayagada districts and are expected to drastically reduce delays and streamline train movement across key junctions.

In Cuttack, a 10.89-kilometer rail flyover will be built at a cost of ₹268.92 crore. This flyover will link Rajathgarh, Radhakishorepur, and Machhapur railway stations. Officials confirm that this project will enable the simultaneous movement of trains, solving a persistent issue caused by cross-traffic at the junctions.

The second major approval is for a ₹240 crore project for a 5.5-kilometer flyover on the Raipur–Vizianagaram line under the Waltair division of East Coast Railway (ECoR). This project targets the critical Singapore Road–Rayagada section, long identified as a bottleneck for seamless train operations.

According to a railway statement, the new flyovers will integrate key routes such as the energy, mineral, and cement corridor of Indian Railways. This will enable uninterrupted movement of goods and passengers across these high-density zones.

“These flyovers will significantly improve operations in the Khurda Road and Waltair divisions, where traffic bottlenecks have been a longstanding issue,” a senior official noted. The new paths will allow uninterrupted movement from multiple directions, reducing overall travel time and boosting the passenger experience.

In a related development, the Railways is also undertaking significant yard restructuring work at Bhadrak station, another major node in the ECoR zone. This includes non-interlocking work at Bhadrak–Ranital, aimed at boosting train punctuality, minimizing delays, and enhancing overall service standards.
