Indian Railways has taken a significant step forward by conducting a successful loaded train trial run on the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge. Located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, the bridge is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), which aims to seamlessly connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India.
The Anji Khad Bridge is an engineering marvel, spanning across a deep gorge with a single pylon supporting the deck through cables. It stands at a height of over 330 meters above the river bed and has been constructed in challenging geological and topographical conditions.
This trial run marks a crucial step in testing the load-bearing capacity and operational readiness of the bridge. The successful trial also brings Indian Railways closer to completing one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the country.
Once operational, the USBRL will significantly reduce travel time and boost regional connectivity, tourism, and economic integration in the region.
